A British woman died following a parasailing accident in Benidorm after her glide is said to have spun out of control.
The 66-year-old is said to have smashed onto rocks after a strong gust of wind led to a breakage in the parasailing line tethering the parachute canopy to the towing boat.
The woman went into cardiac arrest on impact with the rocks but efforts to revive her after she was taken to Villajoyosa Hospital near Benidorm were unsuccessful and she succumbed to her injuries.
The man, believed to be her husband, survived but is thought to have suffered injuries including broken ribs and was said to be ‘walking wounded.’
The incident happened at around 6.50pm yesterday when a sudden change in weather conditions in the area led to a red flag being raised for swimmers in the popular Costa Blanca resort.
An orange alert had been issued for the entire Alicante province yesterday afternoon, with weather chiefs warning of severe storms, large hail and dangerous wind gusts.
