As spring arrives, nature awakens. The second season of A Minute in Changsha invites you to explore Songya Lake and immerse yourself in the symphony of spring. Once a former riverbed, Songya Lake has undergone a remarkable transformation through ecological restoration. Now spanning over 6,000 acres of water, it stands as the largest urban ecological wetland lake in Hunan and has been recognized as a "Beautiful Lake of the Yangtze River Economic Belt." With its pristine waters and abundant fish and shrimp, the lake has become a sanctuary for 194 bird species, including five classified as national first-level protected species and 21 as national second-level protected species.
Songya Lake offers a breathtaking floral spectacle throughout the year, drawing nearly 3.6 million visitors annually. In spring, plum blossoms bloom in full splendor, while summer sees canna lilies in vibrant display. Autumn and winter bring a picturesque contrast of bald cypresses and reeds, creating a mesmerizing landscape that captivates all who visit. The lake has also served as a symbol of international friendship, with distinguished guests from 22 countries planting trees here as a testament to global goodwill.
Prioritizing ecology and sustainable development, the area around Songya Lake is at the heart of Changsha County’s vision for a greener future. The county is developing a Future Science and Technology City, integrating scientific innovation, industry, urban living, and natural scenery, supporting Changsha’s ambition to become a global research and development hub.
More than just a scenic wonder, Songya Lake exemplifies the harmonious coexistence of nature and technology. If time allows, visit Songya Lake to listen to the melodies of spring, admire the beauty of the landscape, and experience the unique charm of Changsha—a city where ecology and progress go hand in hand.
